SPF, which stands for Sender Policy Framework, is an email protection system, which is designed to verify whether an email message was sent by an authorized server. Employing SPF protection for a particular domain name will stop the forging of emails generated with the domain. In layman's terms: enabling this feature for a domain generates a specific record in the Domain Name System (DNS) that contains the IP addresses of the servers that are permitted to send emails from mail boxes using the domain. As soon as this record propagates worldwide, it exists on all of the DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. Every time an e-mail message is sent, the first DNS server it goes through tests if it comes from an authorized server. If it does, it's forwarded to the destination address, but if it doesn't originate from a server indexed in the SPF record for the domain, it is rejected. In this way nobody will mask an email address and make it appear as if you are distributing spam messages. This method is also known as email spoofing.
SPF Protection in Hosting
When you host your domain names in a hosting
account with us and we handle the e-mail addresses for them, you are able to enable SPF protection for all of them with a few clicks inside your Hepsia Control Panel. This service is accessible in a section of its own where you'll be able to view which domain names are already protected. For those that are not, you can activate the SPF protection service and set up various things during this process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your e-mail addresses, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, and to create a rule that messages can be sent only if your domains use our MX records. The last solution is the most secure one, but you can use it in the event that we handle the emails for your domain names and do not use some other email supplier. The newly created records will be activated within 24 hours and nobody will be able to fake the FROM field in an e-mail with your e-mail addresses.
SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you host your domains in a semi-dedicated server
account from us, you can take advantage of the SPF protection feature as part of the conventional collection of services that you will have using this type of hosting. Starting the protection will involve only a couple of simple steps within the Hepsia Control Panel, so even when you've never used this kind of function before, you won't have any problems. Using an exceptionally time and effort saving interface, you'll simply need to insert the details of the mail server which will be certified to send messages from your addresses - its hostname (mail.server.com) and IP address (IPv4 or IPv6). As soon as the recently generated record propagates, no one will be able to counterfeit any e-mail for that particular domain and send e-mails from a server other than the one you've typed in. This doesn't necessarily have to be our mail server, yet in case we manage your emails, you'll be able to activate an extra level of protection by choosing an option that e-mail messages can be send from addresses @your-domain.com only in case the domain uses our MX records. Our tech support crew will be able to help you 24/7 in case you have any questions about this service.
